The HuaZhi 400 Type Metal Shredder is our most compact entry-level twin-shaft metal shredding machine — purpose-built for small-scale metal recycling yards, workshops, metal fabrication shops, and agricultural equipment service centers that need reliable metal shredding capability without the capital investment of a large industrial machine.
The 400 features two synchronized counter-rotating shafts, each fitted with 8–12 rectangular cutting knives mounted in a staggered, overlapping pattern. This design generates exceptional shearing and tearing force at low rotational speed — delivering clean, controlled shredding of metal scraps without the high-impact noise and vibration of traditional hammer mills.
With a compact footprint of just 2,200 × 1,800 mm and a motor configuration of 11–18.5 kW, the 400 Metal Shredder processes 200–600 kg of metal scrap per hour — the ideal solution for operations processing 500–5,000 kg of scrap per day.
Two counter-rotating shafts with staggered knife arrays generate a powerful shearing and tearing action. Material is gripped by the intermeshing knife pattern and cut progressively — producing uniform shred size without high-impact stress on the material or the machine frame.
Each shaft carries 8–12 heat-treated tool steel knives arranged in a V-pattern. Knives are indexed (4 cutting edges each) and individually replaceable — when one edge dulls, rotate or replace that knife only, not the entire assembly.
The cutting chamber is machined from a single-piece weldment with precision-bored bearing housings — ensuring perfect shaft alignment and preventing material bypass. Hardox 400 wear plates protect the chamber walls from abrasive wear.
Dual 5.5–9.2 kW motors (total 11–18.5 kW) with synchronized gearboxes deliver maximum torque at low RPM. The IE3 motor configuration minimizes electricity consumption — the 400 consumes significantly less power than a comparably productive hammer mill.
Twin-shaft shearing at low RPM produces far less noise and vibration than impact shredding. Combined with the solid welded frame (no bolted panels to rattle), operational noise is maintained below 75 dB — suitable for indoor workshop environments.
A single hydraulic cylinder drives the material pusher at variable speed — continuously feeds material into the cutting chamber without manual loading. The pusher speed is manually adjustable to suit different material types.
The 400’s small footprint (2,200 × 1,800 mm base) and standard 380V/415V 3-phase power requirement mean it can be installed in existing workshops without structural modifications or special power infrastructure.
Knife removal and replacement requires only basic hand tools. Individual knife blocks are pinned and bolted — no special equipment, no press, no professional technician required. Knife rotation or replacement: 30–60 minutes.
Manufactured to CE safety standards with full emergency stop systems, motor overload protection, and safety interlock switches on all access doors.
